I had no idea Pinterest was so full of excellent teaching ideas. I’m hooked! Here are some of my favourites this week (click through for credit):

What a nice idea to summarise what’s been covered that day/week! Also useful for those Monday morning reviews.

I actually posted a lesson on “Class Rules” a while back, I think when I repeat it I’ll use this format.

This is a “Back to School” activity to find out more about students but I’m sure it will go down well at any time.

Class Rules

Although I usually teach adults, my current class age range is from teenagers to early twenties. Although they are (or should be!) old enough to know correct classroom etiquette, it always helps to establish a firm set of agreed-upon rules at the start of a new class.

At the beginning of our current cycle I asked students to discuss what they expected out of each other, themselves and their teacher in this class. I handed out two sheets of A3 paper which we drew scrolls on, and some pens. This is also a great way to practise Modal Verbs (Should, Must, Have to etc.)

We stuck these up above our whiteboard, and it certainly does make a difference no matter the age of your students. If someone starts talking over you, taking out their mobile phone or giving out a general air of can’t-be-arsedness, simply point to your set of rules!
